Dr. Chuang Shu-chi was the first registered female practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine in Taiwan and received her PhD degree from Keio University. After witnessing both her father and husband suffer from cancer and pass away, Dr. Chuang's medical practices mainly emphasized cancer prevention as well as maintaining one's health and everyday wellness. In 1996, scholars Hsu Hsueh-chi, Liu Shu-fen, Chang Su-ya, and Lai Hui-min used oral histories to recount her distinguished life, which resulted in the publishing of "Memoirs of Chuang Shu-Chi" in 2011. Ten years after the fact, a second edition has been printed to celebrate her 100th birthday. This edition now includes prefaces authored by Hsueh-chi Hsu, Dr. Chuang Ching-fen (the second daughter of Dr. Chuang Shu-chi), and Dr. Chang Chiung-hung; as well as the records and photos of, and the addresses presented by professors Hsi-yuan Chen and Jen-der Lee at the ceremony celebrating the donation of Dr. Chuang's personal archives.
