Introduction
The collection of cassette tapes held by the Archives were mostly produced from 1981 onwards, contents of which contain lectures held by distinguished scholars of the previous generation, including Shih Hu (1891–1962), Kao-yuan Hsu (?–?), Han-sheng Chuan (1912–2001), Pan Chen (1912–2001), Chi Li (1896–1979), Keng-wang Yen (1916–1996), Fang-kuei Li (1902–1987), Kan Lao (1907–2003), Kang-po Shen (1896–1977), Umehara Sueji (1893–1983), and John Grahame Douglas Clark (1907–1995). In addition, a number of the tapes are recordings of meetings, oral interviews, and gatherings of colleagues. For example, one is of a conference jointly held by the IHP and the Institute of Modern History (IMH) in 1974; a second records a 1998 symposium on the discipline of humanities and social sciences in Taiwan; another is of a memorial conference for the anniversary of the passing of Shih Hu; and a fourth records a more relaxed gathering of colleagues enjoying a meal in celebration of the sixty-ninth birthday of Chi Li.
