The China Foundation for the Promotion of Education and Culture, founded from Boxer indemnities paid to America, has aimed to develop Chinese scientific education and cultural programs, funding of which benefited early research conducted by the IHP. According to funding and expense reports, the funds provided to the IHP were mainly focused on publishing, archaeological projects, and equipment for linguistics research, which directly assisted early publications, excavations carried out at the Yinxu and Shandong sites, and dialect surveys. These funds proved especially essential during the turmoil of war when the IHP relocated on several occasions, as financial support from the China Foundation allowed the IHP to “continue carrying out its work.”
